THE PET SHOP
A shop sells large birds and small birds. Each large bird cost twice the price of a small one. A lady bought five large and three small birds. If instead that she had chosen three large and five small birds, it would have spent € 20 less.
Which is the price of each bird?

The longest poem ever written is Raymond Queneau’s Hundred Thousand Billion Poems or One hundred million million poems (original French title: Cent mille milliards de poèmes), published in 1961, is a set of ten sonnets. They are printed on card with each line on a separated strip, like a heads-bodies-and-legs book. As all ten sonnets have not just the same rhyme scheme but the same rhyme sounds, any lines from a sonnet can be combined with any from the nine others, so that there are many different poems.
How many different poems can be formed?
If it takes 27 seconds in reading every poem. How many years would it take to read all the possible combinations?

PALINDROMES
A palindrome is a word or phrase, which can be read equally from the right or the left, like for example "Madam, I'm Adam". When we speak about numbers, a palindrome could be, for example "4598954"
Knowing this, and that the Spanish car registration number consists in four numbers (formed by 10 numbers from 0 to 9) and three letters (formed by 20 letters that result of the alphabet without the vowels, the Ñ and the Q).
1. How many different matriculations can be formed from the first one 0000BBB up to the last one 9999ZZZ?
2. How many have palindrome numbers?
3. How many have the letters forming palindrome?
4. How many matriculations combine both properties and are palindrome with the letters and the numbers?
5. Find out the origin of the words "palindrome" and "capicúa".

PROBLEMA 1 MES DE NOVIEMBRE
UN TAL SR. LUMPERICH
Parte 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tibFOPpyYcs
Parte 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4k114NnD10
Parte 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxk76PBo_nU

SOMEONE CALLED LUMPERICH
I suppose that everybody has seen a chapter of a cartoon created in 1974 called " Vickie the Vikingo" sometime.
To solve the problem of the month, I'm inviting you to see chapter 33 of the mentioned cartoon.
These are the links.
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tibFOPpyYcs
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4k114NnD10
Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxk76PBo_nU
In that chapter a crooked merchant comes to Vickie's village, and offers the inhabitants the possibility of obtaining a gift by betting a golden coin. There are seventeen articles in his saddle-bags, and the villagers can choose one if they win a game acording to the following conditions:
1. The vikingo begins taking the articles that he wants, but only between one and three.
2. After the vikingo chooses, Lumperich also withdraws one, two or three articles.
3. Then, the vikingo plays again, withdrawing again between one and three articles, and this way the game continues until nothing is left on the table.
4. The only object that cannot be taken is a little empty chest. The person that is obliged to take it because it is the only thing that is still on the table, loses the game.
The trick consists of the fact that Lumperich never loses, because the little chest is always the last article on the table when it's the turn of the viking to withdraw. So, the merchant, takes all the money of the villagers.

Vickie realised what the trick was and introduced a flute close to other objects. This way, without Lumperich realizing, Vickie was giving him the "beginning of the game". Lumperich did not realize that there was one more article and because of it, Lumperich was obliged to take the little chest. Thus Vickie recovered all the money.
How must Vickie begin the game after adding the flute?
